Phone providers charge 68p for ten minutes

Both BT and Virgin Media have just announced new higher rates for spring. These two UK media giants have each raised both their line rental, connect charge, and cost per minute rates. Prices are now at such levels that a simple 10 minute call made during daytime hours will cost nearly 70p! Add another 10p for the prorated cost of line rental based on a hundred calls a month and we are quickly approaching half a pound for a phone call from your own home. It seems that United Kingdom phone line providers are insisting everyone sign up for anytime plans, as no one will want to pay these prices. Further proof of the intent of the nation’s telecoms comes in the form of BT’s decision to begin night time rates at 7PM versus the previous start time of 6PM. It seems as if all these rate hikes fly in the face of the Come back to BT promotional image placed so heavily in 2009. When surveyed United Kingdom home phone customers repeatedly praised BT for service and reliability. The entire analysis and debate of which phone service to choose comes down to this. If you make plenty of calls at all hours of day and night you had better have the most all inclusive phone plan available. And if you can bundle that plan with other telecom products like broadband and TV all the better. But if you are away from home during the weekday or if your world simply does not revolve around being tethered to a phone, basic plans allowing for cheap phone calls by way of free nights and weekends will serve you better.
