Freesat TV hit 1 million home mark

The United Kingdom’s leading no cost satellite TV provider Freesat has announced reaching the one million shall we call them non-customer milestone. We refer to this group as being non-customers because as we all know Freesat is available at no cost. While a few more channels are available with Sky’s version of free satellite transmission, Freesat seems to remain the most popular probably due to its overall familiarity to United Kingdom consumers. The slowdown in the global economy over the last few years seems to have precipitated this Freesat rise in popularity. Many consumers who still own an existing satellite dish but were no longer able to afford a paid subscription are pleased to aim their dish to a different point in the sky and use the Freesat set top box.
At the present time Freesat offers customers over 140 channels, two of these are available as high definition. While it is obviously true that Sky TV and many UK cable TV providers such as Virgin Media and BT make available far more high definition channels, there still remains the overriding factor of price. Many United Kingdom consumers have simply opted to use Freesat in conjunction with pay digital TV so as to only pay for programming watched and enjoyed. This of course was the premise behind BT Vision channels with Freeview inherent in its basic programming and allowances for extremely individualized purchase of favourite entertainment. Bear in mind however that BT Vision use is reliant upon a paid BT broadband connection. These bare bones deals seem to be in direct contrast with larger TV packages from companies such as Virgin Media. One wonders if there is a demographic middle ground when it comes to TV viewing habits?
