Water For All and NOV Mono(R) Bring Clean Drinking Water to Africa
JOHANNESBURG, June 22 2009 – As a worldwide leader in the manufacture and design of pumping systems, NOV Mono certainly knows its way around pumps. Now, in a unique partnership, the company has teamed up with the Non-Governmental organisation Water For All. Their goal? To provide schools, small communities and villages across the entire continent of Africa with one of life’s most basic human needs – clean, fresh water.
The company have developed an exciting new ‘Fun Pump’, so called because the pump is partly powered by the merry-go-round that children can use when playing to generate power. This is combined with solar power – which works well across Africa. This technology sees a large increase in water production compared to the old style, manual water pumps.
The pump can produce around 5,000 litres of water every day, depending on the depth of the borehole created. Mono and Water For All have also developed a ‘Sun Pump’ which is powered by a 480 watt panel and can produce between 8,000 to 30,000 litres of water daily. This is a huge amount of water that could change the lives on many hundreds people in Africa. Around the world, 1.1 billion people are without easy access to clean, safe drinking water.

Mono usually work with government and commercial operators but Water For All have quickly become one the largest African clients for the company as they work together to provide pumps free of charge to those in the most need.
