In mid January the merger of Tiscali into TalkTalk will be complete. When this happens Tiscali customers will find themselves at a financial disadvantage if they do not opt for a bundled package of services from TalkTalk. Tiscali broadband customers will face and up charge of 5 pounds per month effective beginning the 14th of January 2010. This may turn out to be a blessing in disguise for Tiscali customers who should now begin to compare broadband prices.
While it is true that the prices charged by Tiscali for the combination of home phone broadband and television were basically unbeatable, those same low prices led to the financial collapse of the firm. Still the price structure established by Tiscali remains and as those customers are absorbed into the TalkTalk network they can expect to salvage some of their savings with new plans from TalkTalk. Representatives from BT have noted about this change over that the shutdown of Tiscali’s independent broadband operations marks the end of free broadband as part of a triple play bundle throughout the United Kingdom.
It may also mean that UK consumers may fully expect to pay a base rate for all of their communication services such as home phone, broadband and television. Meanwhile a mad scurry has resulted with all of the major United Kingdom broadband providers attempting to lure the former Tiscali customers with offers such as three months free broadband. BT is offering former Tiscali customers broadband at 9.99 pounds per month.
This price being half the rate currently charged by TalkTalk.
