Digital TV will destroy the ratings game

Television networks pit their best shows against each other during peak months of the television watching year. These periods known as sweeps determine the price is that the channels can charge for commercial advertising. Viewership and popularity of programs determines which channels are most chosen for packages from cable TV providers.

The advent of digital TV when combined with cable delivery has created a situation where it is not uncommon for not just two popular programs such as X factor and BBC sports personality of the year to face off in the rating games, but for a dozen popular programs to be slated to be televised in that same time slot. Such fierce viewer competition may likely soon come to an end as the entire basis for programming switches to an on demand status.

Indeed the cooperative effort of Project Canvas by the BBC and BT vision channels offering pay per view on conventional programming now allows one to not merely record programs that are occurring simultaneously and watch one when more convenient, but gives is the ability to choose from all of the programmes available during any given month and either on mass or individually purchase their view. A complete comparison analysis of all the best TV packages as recognized by both price and availability are easily found at digitalchoices.co.uk. At Digital Choices, one can take advantage of all the latest competitive prices from biggest and the best United Kingdom television providers such as Sky, BT and Virgin Media.

Tiscali customers need fast broadband comparison

In mid January the merger of Tiscali into TalkTalk will be complete. When this happens Tiscali customers will find themselves at a financial disadvantage if they do not opt for a bundled package of services from TalkTalk. Tiscali broadband customers will face and up charge of 5 pounds per month effective beginning the 14th of January 2010. This may turn out to be a blessing in disguise for Tiscali customers who should now begin to compare broadband prices.

While it is true that the prices charged by Tiscali for the combination of home phone broadband and television were basically unbeatable, those same low prices led to the financial collapse of the firm. Still the price structure established by Tiscali remains and as those customers are absorbed into the TalkTalk network they can expect to salvage some of their savings with new plans from TalkTalk. Representatives from BT have noted about this change over that the shutdown of Tiscali’s independent broadband operations marks the end of free broadband as part of a triple play bundle throughout the United Kingdom.

It may also mean that UK consumers may fully expect to pay a base rate for all of their communication services such as home phone, broadband and television. Meanwhile a mad scurry has resulted with all of the major United Kingdom broadband providers attempting to lure the former Tiscali customers with offers such as three months free broadband. BT is offering former Tiscali customers broadband at 9.99 pounds per month.

This price being half the rate currently charged by TalkTalk. Due to these many surprising New Year developments one would be well advised to study a few broadband reviews before making any decisions involving a broadband comparison. Information for this article was compiled from news reports found on broadbandchoices.co.uk.

Green flag breakdown and a pint of milk

In keeping with their outstanding policy to sell anything and everything, most of the United Kingdom’s major supermarket chains are now offering breakdown cover. One can purchase RAC breakdown cover at Asda or green flag breakdown through Tesco and Sainsburys.

And while all of these may offer exceptional pricing bargains, it still remains foolish to purchase such important policies of cover without first completing a simple breakdown cover comparison. To completely compare breakdown cover first visit Breakdownchoices.co.uk.

This consumer assistance website specializes in providing simple to understand factual comparisons of all the United Kingdom’s largest breakdown cover contracts as offered by major providers such as AA, RAC and Green Flag Breakdown. Both AA and RAC offer substantial discounts for purchase of their cover directly online. This would obviously make sense too, as supermarket chains do fully expect to make a healthy commission on any sales they bring into the fold.

While it is true you will not be able to buy your groceries at Breakdown Choices, you will be able to find exactly that cover you require. When purchasing breakdown cover it is essential to remember that cover is divided into specific levels of service and if you do not purchase the correct breakdown cover package you are very likely to find yourself stranded with a roadside assistance policy that is as good as no cover it all. Tow home and home start service are examples of supplemental to basic level breakdown cover features that the majority of United Kingdom car owners would always prefer to have in place.

Tiscali users come back to BT

On the 14th of January when Tiscali officially becomes part of Talk Talk, current Tiscali users will see a bump in their pricing plans. Many UK home phone users are choosing to opt out of the price increase and take this moment as an opportunity to consider offers from all of the best UK home communications providers.

With 20,000,000 dissatisfied customers, it is no surprise that so many Tiscali customers have decided not to continue service with Tiscali/Talk Talk and have chosen to come back to BT. In a similar note a recent report from consumer assistance website, HomePhoneChoices.co.uk details that 40% of all United Kingdom home communications buyers base their choice of phone line providers on reliability more than price.

This might explain why Tiscali, a company with astoundingly low prices failed in the UK. They were cheap but were they good? This also shows us why BT continues to be the largest of all the UK landline providers. While BT may not offer the lowest prices they do tend to operate with the public’s interest in their corporate mindset as evidenced by their financial and technical involvement in Project Canvas.

Project Canvas will further BT’s ability to offer on demand targeted programs at specified costs. The same report mentions speed of connections as the second most important factor in choosing total telecommunications package. In this area Virgin Media excels but BT still manages to be quite competitive. Certainly anyone having a price increase forced upon them will want to consider every other home phone alternative.

United Vans Vehicle Dismantlers Comment On The Extension Of The Government’s Scrappage Scheme

Bristol January 2010

The announcement yesterday that the government was to extend the car scrappage scheme by an extra month has extended the period of increased new car sales until the end of March. The scrappage scheme, which has been running since the 18th May last year, was originally intended to boost the failing new car industry by allowing cars of 10 years or older to be scrapped in return for a £1000 subsidy towards a new car. The deal was that the dealership would also reduce the price by £1000 (or more) giving the much touted figure of £2000.

The original calculations on the VAT arrangements of this scheme seem to have been flawed to some extent, now correctly calculated, this has led to a windfall return from the treasury. This has allowed the scheme to be extended to the end of March or ‘until the money runs out’ a government spokesperson said yesterday.

The scheme has had its fair share of nay-sayers and proponents since it began but there can be no denying the effect it has had on the new car market. Sales of new cars were up by 29.8% in January 2010 despite the weather and the increase in VAT. This rise, according to figures published by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), means that for the last seven months year on year sales of new cars have risen steadily. Given the economic conditions this has to be hailed a major success for the industry and government intervention in it.

The Bristol Vehicle Dismantlers, United Vans, Said today ‘Although in these gloomy times good news is welcome news, the fact that these cars are obliged to be dismantled or crushed means that some very roadworthy vehicles have been scrapped that otherwise would have been still driving around. Every time a vehicle has its life terminated early we have another unit of mixed metals, plastics and fluids to dispose of sooner rather than later. A side of vehicle dismantling that our industry is working very hard to improve. We here at United Vans will continue to use ‘vans wanted‘ signs and adverts as our way of increasing our range of secondhand van spares and van parts, rather than rely on government initiatives to temporarily increase the amount of scrapped vehicles coming our way.’

The overall impact of the scheme does seem to be, on balance, a positive one but the fact that the scheme is coming to an end means that the environmental issues associated with it will be put to rest. The car industry as a whole, having been given a boost, perhaps can return its attention to the whole life cycle of the vehicle including its final demise and recycling. For now though those of you that have bought under this scheme please take care of your new purchase and it will be a very long time before it needs to dismantled and disposed of in a clean and environmentally friendly way.

Waste Not Want Not – Finding The Right Software Outsourcing Partner

January 4, 2010 by admin · Leave a Comment
Filed under: Press Releases

The almighty rush to cut costs and save money for every business right now is causing many to look at the concept of outsourcing certain functions within their business sector. This concept is certainly not new and when re-described as sub-contracting many reading this will recognise the practice that has been prevalent in scertain sectors, such as the construction inductry and industrial cleaning, for many decades. There are however factors to take into acount that can make the choice actually less cost effective than keeping the ‘function’ in-house.

Outsourcing for outsourcing’s sake is no way forward. The period of re-adjustment to this new way of doing the ‘thing’ can be long and expensive if handled incorrectly. The need to outsource to a sleek, efficient and flexible company is paramount. The Lean Management Principles and Guidelines that are implemented in some companies provide efficiency, flexibility and a robustly transparent contracting and production system. These are the most important requirements of your chosen outsourcing company.

If the company that you choose to take on your outsourcing work is a Lean Business already and as one of its many functions it undertakes Lean Consulting for other companies then you have hit the jackpot in terms of efficient and cooperative working practices. A company such as Suaju Ltd UK is one such company. They appeared at ‘Technology World – 2009′ at the Ricoh Arena Coventry on the 23rd to 24th November 2009 and were again suitably visible at the Outsourcing Conference – Delivering Success – 2009 which was held at Central Hall, Westminster on 26th November 2009. They are fast becoming a leader in both software outsourcing and Lean Consulting.

They have two main business functions to offer the corporate and business world. The first is to help Uk businesses to become Lean using Lean Management Principles, they even offer a free initial consultation for this service, and this in turn makes them a very stable and efficient company. This alows them to offer their second main function, software outsourcing, this function is all the more a fantastic deal as the main issue with software outsourcing is the inability of many companies to provide a smooth service from design brief and inception to completion and delivery. The fact that they are a Lean company provides the client with the transparency they need during the process of development and the confidence in the company as a whole that is necessary to provide a stress free outsourcing experience.

Given that outsourcing as a business choice is here to stay then take heed that there has to be a cost and/or time benefit. These need to be quantifiable and obvious. If your choosen outsourcing company cannot provide the necessary evidence of these then perhaps one should look elsewhere.

A primer for breakdown cover comparison

Consumer Choices website BreakdownChoices.co.uk has recently posted a kind of Dos and Don’ts listing of all the most important features United Kingdom car owners and drivers need to look for when sorting out the best options for breakdown cover. While it is still recommended that UK consumers complete a more thorough breakdown cover comparison directly on the Breakdown Choices website, the information contained in the article serves to help people initially understand and compare breakdown cover.

Breakdown choices reports the following important cover features:

Swift recovery is essential as very often those in need of roadside assistance are stranded in high traffic situations or poor weather.

With 86% of all breakdown cover call outs requiring only a simple repair of a tyre , a splash of fuel or a battery recharge, tow home service is not always essential.

24 hour support is probably the most important feature to subscribe to when purchasing breakdown cover. It does seem that motoring problems only occur in odd hours.

A further consideration is the quality of repair person your breakdown cover company sends. No one wants to wait an hour for assistance only to have an incompetent mechanic arrive.

Finally consumers in the UK report that assistance in filing any claims they may have is one of the most important features they require from their breakdown cover company.

Whether you choose a breakdown cover company offering features as diverse as European tow home protection, onward travel insurance or motorbike breakdown cover, the key to choosing the best company still remains as finding a breakdown cover company you feel confident will be there when you need them.
